Who Can Apply for Express Entry?

To create a profile in the Express Entry pool, candidates must meet the minimum criteria for one of the eligible programs. These typically include:

At least one year of full-time skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3)
Valid language test results (IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF) meeting minimum CLB 7 (for FSWP/CEC)
An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign degrees or diplomas
Proof of settlement funds (unless applying through CEC or with a valid job offer)

How to Apply for Express Entry Canada

What Are Category-Based Express Entry Draws?

Express Entry + PNP = A Powerful Option

Several Canadian provinces use Express Entry-linked Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) to select candidates who meet local labor needs. This is called an enhanced PNP. If nominated, you receive 600 additional CRS points, boosting your profile to the top of the pool. Popular provinces with Express Entry PNP streams include Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia.

What Happens After Receiving an ITA?

Once you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA):

You’ll have 60 days to submit a complete PR application.
Documents required include police certificates, medical exams, proof of funds, employment records, and more.
Submitting a clean and complete file is critical—errors can lead to delays or refusals.

Express Entry Processing Time in Canada

On average, the processing time after submitting a complete application is 6 -16 months, though this varies depending on:

Program type (CEC, FSWP, or PNP)
Completeness of documents
Security & medical clearance
Volume of applications at IRCC

PNP-linked applications may take slightly longer, while CEC cases with complete documentation are often processed faster.
