Super Visa In Canada

Canada understands the importance of family unity. That’s why it offers the Super Visa, a long-term multiple-entry visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay in Canada for extended periods — up to 5 years at a time per visit.

What Is a Super Visa?

The Super Visa is a multi-entry visa valid for up to 10 years that allows eligible parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to:

  • Visit Canada multiple times without reapplying

  • Stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit (as of 2022 update)

This makes it ideal for extended family visits and caregiving support, especially for those who don’t qualify under the annual Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship PR lottery.

Who Can Apply for a Super Visa?

To qualify, the applicant must be:

  • The parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

  • Outside Canada at the time of application

  • Medically admissible to Canada

  • Covered by private medical insurance (Canadian-based) for at least 1 year

Dependents (e.g., siblings, children) are not eligible under this program.

The Canadian host must:

  • Provide a written letter of invitation

  • Prove they meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirements for the family size
